2018 marked the centenary of the assassination of Tsar Nicholas II and his immediate family & staff during the Bolshevik revolution in Russia. This talk starts with Empress Marie, sister of the British Queen Alexandra, and the mother of the murdered Tsar.   It explains how her husband, Tsar Alexander III, commissioned Peter Carl Faberge to create Easter gifts for Marie, each containing a “Surprise”.   He allowed Faberge carte-blanche to create fabulous gold and jewelled Eggs, without any limit on cost. There are many images of Faberge’s creations, not only his Imperial Eggs. Updated 27 May2019
